The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Surgery, Division
of Trauma & Acute Care is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician
Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within
defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed
physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and
procedures located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital.The
Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a
multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to
excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety,
research, quality improvement, and teaching.The APP will have a
strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an
environment of safe quality care. The APP position requires a
strong clinical competence in acute and emergency general surgery
care, critical decision making and ability to assess, diagnose and
treat patients in an inpatient setting. The APP will have a strong
foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of
safe quality care.The Ideal Candidate will be an APP with strong
clinical competence in trauma care, critical decision making, and
ability to access, diagnose, and treat patients, wanting to be part
of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the
Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will
include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care in an
inpatient setting.In this role you will,
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in
diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical
intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Trauma
team.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes,
and/or admission and transfer orders.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic
procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents
information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by
the trauma/critical care surgery services.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family, and staff to
promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements,
including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint
Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of
this team through participation in the development of quality
indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends
in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field,
through educational programs, in-services, professional associates,
and current literature.
- Attends daily rounds with faculty and Trauma physician team,
presents 24-hour patient report.
- Performs tertiary surveys.
- Acts as a liaison for communication of care plans and discharge
destinations from ICU to floor teams. Attends care coordination
rounds as able.
- Participates in Acute Care Surgery performance improvement
activities to ensure the quality of care and effectiveness of
service. Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies
normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and
psychosocial status.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic
procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents
information

- Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment
plans.
- Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
- Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
- Perform procedures as trained and appropriately
credentialed.
- Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and
completes other necessary documents.
- Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health
care providers as appropriate.
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding
current health problems, health maintenance activities and
preventive behaviors.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements,
including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint
Commission.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends
in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field,
through educational programs, in-services, professional associates,

Position Requirements:
Preferred Schedule: Full-time coverage expectations for every
weekend (Sat/Sun plus one weekday) with one weekend off in 5 weeks
plus the opportunity to use PTO on weekends quarterly. Rotating
holiday coverage.
Preferred Experience: 3-4 years of experience in Trauma Surgery,
Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine preferred. Inpatient clinical
management experience also preferred. Minimum Education:Advanced
Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician
